I stayed for a total of 3 months and 2 weeks at the Kekoldi base. Each volunteer is involved in collecting data on the species present in the indigenous reserve. This involves walking defined paths within the reserve and recording the species seen and heard in a given area. To do this, you need to acquire precise knowledge of the wildlife, but no worries! The first weeks are training periods. The staff present is very educational and ensures that each volunteer gains the necessary knowledge through presentations and practice sessions.
As an intern, I was responsible for additional tasks, such as data entry in Excel.
This project has been extremely enriching for my development, both on a personal level, through the unique connections I made with international volunteers sharing the same interests as me, as well as with the passionate staff on site. But also on a professional level, I gained extensive knowledge, both scientifically by learning to master species names and their behavior, and practically through various trainings on group management and risk assessment.
This mission holds a deep meaning for me, thanks to an exceptional staff and a unique setting within an indigenous reserve. As a volunteer, I had the opportunity to contribute to the preservation of this region.
Realstep helped me find the training that perfectly suited me. I was very well supported throughout the process by my coordinator, who was extremely available and caring.
