Julia's journey took place at the Kekoldi Indigenous Reserve in Costa Rica within the period of two months.
Her experience shows us how learning hands-on and working with the local community enabled by this program can be life-changing.
The last two months I was lucky enough to be a Conservation Intern in the wonderful Kekoldi Indigenous Reserve in Costa Rica. Spending time in a forest with such rich biodiversity and history is an experience I’ll cherish forever. During this time I learned how to identify species, lead biodiversity surveys, work with camera traps, and so many other skills.
But besides the practical skills, am I also grateful for meeting the amazing staff members, interns, and Indigenous family members that inspired me everyday to work on conserving the amazing forest I spend my time in. This whole experience made me more motivated than ever to continue studying to become a tropical wildlife ecologist, and help to conserve our incredible tropical forests and biodiversity.
