Housing is allocated by local NGOs, not by Freepackers - the descriptions are there to give you an idea of the type of accommodation, as it is very likely that conditions will vary on site depending on the number of volunteers, weather conditions, availability, etc. Each volunteer will be accommodated according to the stated conditions, but it is possible that the accommodation may not match the description or images shown on this site word for word, for example, in the case of annexed housing, renovations, relocations, etc.
For the construction project, you will be accommodated in traditional clay huts, shared between 2 and 4 volunteers. You will have access to traditional African toilets and a shower.
The accommodation is located a few minutes’ walk from the project.
For the environmental project, you will be accommodated in a volunteers’ house or with a host family, with shared rooms. The accommodation includes a bathroom and a shared kitchen. Water, electricity, and Wi-Fi are available.
You can reach the project in a 15 to 30-minute walk, or take the bus (at your own expense).
A shared kitchen is available, where breakfast and dinner are prepared daily for participants.
The village where the construction project takes place is located in Patar, about 180 km from the capital, Dakar. The work site is a small traditional village that is part of a municipality with a total population of 15,000.
As for the environmental project, you will be based in the city of Diourbel, about 140 km from Dakar. With around 130,000 inhabitants, it is one of the country’s major urban centres.
