Your Tasks During the Internship

As an intern, you will be supervised by licensed healthcare professionals who will guide you throughout your workdays. The responsibilities assigned to you will vary depending on your level of education, your qualifications, and the policies of the host institution. For your information, here are the activities you may be asked to perform:

  • Observing medical consultations, nursing care, and therapeutic procedures
  • Participating in patient flow: reception, triage, and preparation
  • Assisting with administrative tasks and the organization of care areas
  • Assisting with non-invasive procedures for qualified participants
  • Participating in health awareness and education campaigns
  • Clinical exchanges and case discussions with healthcare teams

Learning about medical ethics, informed consent, and patient rights in an international context

Important: Observation is the primary activity for most participants. Supervised practical tasks are available only to students and professionals with the required qualifications, in accordance with local laws.

Supervision and Support

You will work under the constant supervision of licensed healthcare professionals. Every day, discussion sessions are scheduled to answer your questions, share clinical observations, and foster your professional development. A local coordinator also provides weekly follow-up on your progress and well-being. Support from The Green Lion is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout your stay.

Program Schedule – 2-Week Nursing Internship in Spain

Week 1 – Orientation and Initial Clinical Observations

On Sunday, you’ll be met at Valencia International Airport and taken to your host family’s home. Monday is dedicated to a full day of orientation: Spanish culture, medical ethics, patient confidentiality, a tour of the facility, and an overview of your role.

From Tuesday through Friday, you’ll go to your internship site each morning to observe the healthcare teams, help organize patient care, and assist with procedures in accordance with current regulations. On Friday afternoon, a debriefing session with your coordinator wraps up the first week.

Week 2 – In-Depth Study and Clinical Experience

The second week follows a similar pattern, with increased confidence and deeper engagement. You’ll engage in more complex observations, participate in rotations across different departments, contribute to community health initiatives, and take part in supervised case discussions. On Friday morning, you’ll spend your final day at the hospital; the afternoon is dedicated to a final reflection session and the presentation of your certificate of participation. A farewell dinner brings together participants, coordinators, and mentors.
