Program description

Nursing Internship in Thailand : working in a local clinic

The clinics are located in southern Thailand, specifically in the areas of Lamsaek and Ao Luek, in the Krabi province. The populations of the surrounding villages, representing around 6,000 inhabitants, rely on the care provided by these facilities, whose mission is to implement the Ministry of Public Health policies around 4 main objectives:

  • Awareness and education
  • Prevention
  • Healthcare and treatment
  • Recovery and rehabilitation

We also work in collaboration with a hospital located in Ao Luek, and it is possible to complete rotations between the clinics and the hospital, depending on availability and requests made in advance.

The Role of Nursing Interns in Thailand

As a student intern, you will join the team and follow their daily activities. You may be required to carry out the following tasks:

  • Assist medical staff with primary patient care
  • Measure blood pressure
  • Collect patient information
  • Observe and participate in patient diagnosis
  • Observe wound dressing techniques
  • Distribute medication according to the supervising doctor’s instructions
  • Provide emergency care and first aid
  • Participate in workshops on acupuncture and Chinese medicine
  • Discover various traditional Thai and Chinese herbs
  • Conduct vaccination campaigns against flu and dengue fever

The most common medical cases you may encounter include: diabetes, strokes, heart disease, road accidents, and fishing-related accidents (due to the proximity to the sea). Emergencies, maternity care, and surgery are also common situations.

You will have the opportunity to rotate through different departments of the clinic (medical, paramedical, pharmacy, and local medicine).

Optional activities are offered by local doctors, such as workshops on traditional Thai-Chinese medicine, acupuncture training, Thai herbal medicine, aromatherapy, and massage techniques.

Example Schedule

You will work from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with a lunch break from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, which represents 7 hours per day, 5 days per week, leaving you free time to explore the surroundings and enjoy the country.

Tasks and schedules are flexible, as the objective of the internship is to encourage knowledge sharing and provide a meaningful cultural exchange between interns and supervisors.

During the day, your tasks include welcoming patients, patient care, and patient follow-up.

Interns are supervised during working days and fully independent outside working hours.
