The Tourism / Hospitality Internship

You will have the unique opportunity to gain experience in the following tourism departments:

  • a 5-star hostel offering accommodation to international travelers, sports enthusiasts, groups, and backpackers.

  • a 5-star boutique guesthouse, the first guesthouse in South Africa fully automated by Google Home, with a yoga space, interactive cooking classes, and a spa.

  • a travel agency offering organized tours and excursions around Cape Town and South Africa, from airport transfers to skydiving and much more.

  • a travel agency/DMC, providing travelers with the opportunity to realize their tailor-made travel dreams, from budget to 5-star, across Southern Africa.

The project includes:

Tasks during the internship:

  • Learn more about web design, marketing and social media.
  • Show your creativity by writing blog posts, etc.
  • Bring your own ideas and be part of the team.
  • Work outside of a traditional office environment and outside of your comfort zone.
  • Learn all about remote working applications (keep your tasks listed and updated).
  • Work closely with the staff and discover the world of our partner NGO.

 

2-day Welcome Orientation

Your internship begins with a two-day orientation in Cape Town at Saltycrax Backpackers.

DAY 1:

We pick you up at the airport and take you to the Saltycrax Backpackers Hostel. You will be given a tour and a map of the area. You have the day free to explore the beach, stores, bars and restaurants.

In the evening, a welcome meal will be served at the hostel.

DAY 2:

Start the day with breakfast at Saltycrax Backpackers. Saltycrax staff will teach you about the bus system before you leave for downtown Cape Town.

WALKING TOUR OF THE CITY :

Take a walking tour, visiting historic sites such as Good Hope Castle and the Grand Parade. In the parliament buildings and the District Six Museum, discover what life was like during apartheid.

Shop for African arts and crafts at Greenmarket Square and St George's Mall.

After these activities, you can take a bus or walk to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

Sit back and sip a delicious coffee, enjoy fresh fish and watch the boats at work in the harbour, or stroll around and visit the stores and markets while listening to musicians in the streets.

You can also take the cable car up Table Mountain for a breathtaking view of the city.

You can also discover Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned during the apartheid era. (Personal expenses)

In the evening, take the local bus back to Table View where you can join our staff, guests and locals at one of the waterfront restaurants or bars, all within walking distance of the hostel where you will spend the night.

DAY 3:

After breakfast, you will be taken directly to your project where the internship takes place, or dropped off at the bus station to be transported to your project.
