Description

Program description

This sustainable development training offers the opportunity to acquire many skills as well as different certifications. The PADI qualification, for example, is included in this marine conservation project in Fiji. Discover the marine ecosystem of the archipelago, and develop in-depth knowledge in its conservation by collecting data for studies on coral reefs or different species of fish.

Like all of our training courses for working in the environment abroad , this project in Fiji allows you to benefit from complete learning while contributing to the preservation of the region’s ecosystems.

Tasks of the trainees on the sustainable development training

Attention : during the training, many diving sessions are planned. Participants must undergo on-site PADI training to carry out the project, or else be certified.

This project is part of the so-called career training:

This training program in sustainable development is part of the so-called “career” projects. In addition to the mission that you carry out on site, it allows you to benefit from real support, and to access the position of project coordinator in 6 months. Here you combine theoretical training with practical learning, with online modules to be completed after the end of the mission. At the end of the program, you obtain an international certification recognized and issued by the University of Richmond, in the United States.

The accompaniment is therefore present upstream, on site but also downstream of the project. During the course of the mission, you will also have a remote project to carry out: you will have to solve a problem with other partner organizations in marine conservation, environment, animal protection… A coach will follow you and support you to help you better in solving these problems, and at the end of the project you will have access to a platform of job offers in NGOs, following the professional training you will have received.

Skills acquired and impact of sustainable development training :

Our partner organization, composed of members from all over the world, conducts various research on the marine ecosystem by collecting data during diving sessions. The objective is to best guide conservation strategies led by locals, to help local organizations to make the best decisions for the management of the marine environment. While training, you have a positive and lasting impact on the region, the communities, by contributing to the progress of studies and therefore to the making of management decisions favorable to the environment.

The Leadership module is included in this training in sustainable development in Fiji, and allows participants to develop leadership skills, particularly useful in all career paths. Each week, a specific concept related to leadership is studied, such as teamwork, and an assignment on the subject is to be done. A mentor, member of the local team, will be present to guide and accompany the volunteers throughout the training. A certificate and a personal recommendation are given at the end of the program.

Life in the camp

Participants are immersed in an island environment with an international team. There is no shortage of reefs around the island, offering a particularly rich subject of study to the host structure and to the various participants who will be able to observe in depth a unique marine biodiversity, within the framework of this training on the development sustainability in Fiji.

Your accommodation

Housing is allocated by local NGOs, not by Freepackers - the descriptions are there to give you an idea of the type of accommodation, as it is very likely that conditions will vary on site depending on the number of volunteers, weather conditions, availability, etc. Each volunteer will be accommodated according to the stated conditions, but it is possible that the accommodation may not match the description or images shown on this site word for word, for example, in the case of annexed housing, renovations, relocations, etc.

The participants stay in cabins on the beach. The bathroom is common and the rooms are shared (4 -8 persons). Individual tents are available at an additional cost. Sheets are provided by the organization (remember to take a towel), and a cleaning team comes regularly. Laundry facilities are available on site.

Meals

The first 3 months, meals are included and the following 3 months, they are at the expense of the participants.

Mainly vegetarian, the meals are prepared with seasonal and local products. It is up to the participants to cook for the group. For breakfast, you can expect eggs or cereals, and for lunch you can expect dishes made up of vegetables, rice, pasta... and the same for dinner.

Once there

Communication

Communication with people on other continents is limited, warn your relatives! Mobile phone reception is available at the base, although it can be poor at times. It is possible to purchase a Fijian SIM card and phone credit at the airport that can be used with your unlocked mobile phone. You can also buy a pocket WIFI device that can then be topped up with mobile internet.
