Program description

If you are asking yourself the question: “What to do for a gap year after the baccalaureate? “, we have a solution.

Loggerhead turtles maintain healthy seaweed and coral reefs, food sources and shelter for a wide variety of marine species.

In addition to the study of local biodiversity, participants also participate in the identification of threats to the survival of the species. For example coastal development, causing disturbance to spawning and nesting.

The missions of the volunteers:

  • Patrolling the beaches (nights and mornings) to monitor nesting and discourage poaching,
  • Collect data,
  • Participate in education, awareness,
  • Participate in the cleaning of the beaches,
  • Monitor the beaches during the nesting season,
  • Transport the eggs to a secure breeding center,
  • Educate the community and children on the importance of turtles in the marine ecosystem,
  • Work with government to improve regulation,
  • Feeding, cleaning and caring for hatchlings until they are fit for release into the ocean.

The work is undertaken by local assistants and participants. Although there is a wide range of activities under the project, the protection of turtles and nests remains the main objective.
