Useful information

On this international humanitarian internship, set off to South America to help local women emancipate themselves. Argentina faces long-standing human rights issues, including endemic violence against women. The COVID-19 pandemic reinforced existing inequalities between men and women in almost all sectors. In Argentina, over 300 women died as a result of domestic violence between March 2020 and May 2021. These women are the first victims of the pandemic, being particularly affected. That’s why it’s important to speed up the process of economic emancipation, particularly for these women, and that’s what this internship in Argentina offers.

Program description

This international humanitarian internship consists of two missions: a field mission within a local women’s association that supports each other through training, sports activities, and workshops.

Another alternating mission takes place within an international NGO that raises funds to support local associations. This NGO internship is an opportunity for students to learn more about the situation of women in Argentina and to understand the levers for improving their status.

Women in certain neighborhoods live as past generations did, without exposure to different perspectives. They receive no education and suffer from domestic violence. When they realize that their situation is not normal, they reject it, and the foundation provides support to help them navigate their path to change. In 2018, the association won the Cordoba Award for Best International Humanitarian Internship.

These women are seeking skills that could help them find a job or work independently in the future. Most of the women are between 16 and 22 years old. No matter what form your efforts take, contributing to our women’s empowerment project will be both rewarding and enriching. Although they may be shy at first, the women you meet will eventually be warm, friendly, and eager to learn.

Half of the week, students participating in the international humanitarian internship take part in workshops (textiles, recycling, clothing, knitting, crochet, porcelain, etc.) to build a connection with the women in the project. Once integrated, they will be able to interact with them, provide help, offer advice, or simply listen and understand their experiences. Volunteers will also help organize events where the association sells their products.

Missions

The other half of the week, participants work within an international NGO that supports local associations. As part of this international humanitarian internship, the missions may include:

– Mobilizing resources from international and local donors to finance local initiatives and grassroots women’s organizations in Latin America.

– Promoting and strengthening women’s leadership within their local initiatives, organizing meetings to exchange experiences with other women, and connecting them with other sources of technical and financial resources.

Conducting research on relevant topics related to the global development agenda (e.g., development in general and development cooperation specifically for women); drafting working papers, policy notes, and presentations on various topics.

– Providing support during meetings and events, including international conferences and workshops.

– Managing their social media network through communication strategies to promote their projects and share professional experiences.

The internship takes place between March and mid-December, with a minimum duration of 12 weeks. You will also have access to online Spanish courses to facilitate your integration and enrich your experience during this international humanitarian internship.
