Humanitarian projects

All of our programs aim to contribute to sustainable development by helping to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals defined by the United Nations. But what is sustainable development? In concrete terms, it is the fact of meeting the needs of today's society without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. There are three dimensions: environmental, social and economic. These are the social aspects, but also the economic ones on which the humanitarian projects act. The RealStep programs contribute to sustainable development through community projects, aid for renovation and reconstruction, or by acting in the fields of teaching and education.

Humanitarian projects: professionalizing experiences abroad in NGOs

RealStep offers programs abroad with the aim of contributing to the improvement of the living conditions of the local community. This broad definition of our humanitarian projects encompasses a wide range of missions.

Whether you want to start a career in an NGO, complete your training with an internship or acquire international skills, your impact will be both positive and sustainable for the people. And this at all levels, for all: with children, women, teachers, or on construction sites. Humanitarian projects allow first of all to help improve living conditions through the presence of the participants, but also through the skills and knowledge that these participants acquire, which they will be able to use in their professional careers. It is about giving meaning to one's career by reaching out to communities around the world.

In addition, within a humanitarian project, you will live a real immersion experience in the heart of a foreign culture. This notion of internationalism is more and more sought after by students, job seekers and recruiters alike. Living an experience abroad means improving your language skills while benefiting from real personal development through exchanges with the community and other participants. And these exchanges are even more numerous in RealStep humanitarian programs, where you train, collaborate and live in the local community.

Where do humanitarian missions take place and what do they consist of?

RealStep offers humanitarian projects on almost all continents: Asia, America, Africa and Oceania. Indeed, the programs are spread all over the world, which allows us to have a sustainable and positive impact on a large number of communities.
With RealStep you can do an internship in Thailand, live a professional experience with children in South Africa or train as a teacher in Argentina. Depending on the place and the path you choose, the missions are different and bring different skills, although they all bring a transversal learning on the field. The structures will also differ, as we work with local organizations. You will be staying with local people, or in a volunteer house, with a small group of participants or with all of them... However, the immersive experience is present in all of our community projects.

The tasks also vary from project to project: a teaching project, such as in Argentina, requires a real presence with the children, to accompany them in their school curriculum and in their extracurricular activities. While the construction internship in Cape Town, also immersed in the community, requires a more physical investment, as you have to help the locals renovate/build infrastructure. Finally, there are many community development projects, such as the women's empowerment project in Laos, where awareness raising, learning the English language is essential for these local women seeking the keys to their independence.

The different types of humanitarian projects

We find humanitarian programs in all the courses that RealStep offers. The skills acquired are not the same, as well as the experiences lived and the missions entrusted, but all of them take place in local communities.

  • Initiation course

The introductory course includes animal projects in NGOs. It is ideal for a first experience in humanitarian work, as well as when you are still a student or when you want to acquire new experiences, during a reconversion for example.

  • Approved internships

Doing an animal project as part of an internship is the best way to get a practical experience, learning transversal skills and bringing your own knowledge to the project. Studying and continuing to train, giving a meaning to your career, this is exactly what RealStep internships offer.

  • Professional training

With a minimum duration of 6 months, the professional training courses with animals offer a solid contribution to the humanitarian field, particularly in animal protection. These international trainings are ideal to start a career in humanitarian work, thanks to a thorough accompaniment and follow-up before, during and even after the mission.
